Horace Vigesaa

November 18, 1927 — May 31, 2008

Horace Sigvart Vigesaa was born November 18, 1927 in Cooperstown, ND to Sigvart and Edythe (Houghton) Vigesaa. As a young man he worked in Fargo, West Fargo and Moorhead learning the meat cutting and sausage making trade in meat markets. He continued his trade working for Allan Halverson at the Twin Valley (MN) meat market for many years. At the age of 21 he moved to Montana to work on a ranch. He met Clara Schwindt at the roller skating rink in Baker, MT. They were noted for their dancing the waltz on roller skates. Horace and Clara were united in marriage December 23, 1949. They moved to Washington State in where Horace welded at the shipyards and worked for an apple factory for a couple of years. They moved back to Minnesota. Horace began working for Northern Improvement in Fargo and worked there for 12 years. Later he went into his own independent buying and selling business, dealing in feeder pigs and feeder cattle, for three years. Horace's father, Sig, had taught him this business. In 1968 he began working for Gordon Ellingsworth Construction installing water sewer lines. He continued there for two years. In 1970 Horace and Clara began work at the Faribault State School and Hospital, Faribault, MN. He continued his work there for six hears and was injured on the job in 1976. He went on disability and retired.



Horace liked to dance. He and Clara won many dance and roller skating contests and prizes. He enjoyed horseback riding, playing cards, fishing and hunting, buying and selling antiques.



Survivors include his children: Sig and his wife Kop of Bartelsville, OK, Mark and his wife Linda of Faribault, MN, Dianne Kimberlin of Detroit Lakes, Karen Nelson of Cormorant, MN, Cindy Folendorf of Detroit Lakes, 15 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Dolly and her husband, Clifton Brevick of Twin Valley, MN, Shirley Heffington of Flower Mound, TX, a brother, Robert Vigesaa of Fergus Falls, MN. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara in 2003, a granddaughter, Fara Vigesaa, brothers, Richard, Alvin and Clifford and sisters Elizabeth Miller and Orla Vigesaa.
