Gertrude Zurn

June 10, 1917 — December 25, 2007

Gertrude Delores Zurn was born June 10, 1917 in McHugh, MN to Nicholas and Mabel (Hancock) Rohr. She attended District 22 School and is a 1935 graduate of Detroit Lakes, High School. Gertrude attended teacher training in Wadena, MN and graduated in 1936. She taught in several Detroit Lakes rural schools. She was united in marriage to Lawrence H. Zurn, June 10, 1941 in Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes. They farmed in Riceville Township near Callaway where they raised their family. They retired in 1975 and spent their summers in Callaway and winters in Deming, New Mexico until 2000. She entered St. Mary?s Nursing Center in January, 2003. Lawrence died in 2006.-



Survivors include children: Sylvester, "Red" of Callaway, Bill and his wife, Karolyn of Callaway, Anthony "Tony" and his wife DelRae of Detroit Lakes; Diantha Nilles of Carrington, ND, Kathaleen and her husband, David Zeise of Deer Creek, MN, Althea and her husband, Joel Boom of Kindred, ND, Mary Jo and her husband, David Brunner of Detroit Lakes, 17 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, a brother, Norbert and his wife Vivian Rohr of Bluffon, MN and a sister, Winifred Jenson of Detroit Lakes.

In addition to her husband, Lawrence, Gertrude was preceded in death by a brother, Ted and 4 sisters, Margaret, Florence, Dorothy and Eleanor



Gertrude was active in Assumption Catholic Church, The Christian Mothers, the American Cancer Society, Home Extension, and P. T. A. She taught religious education, was a 4-H leader. Memorials are preferred to Hospice Of The Red River Valley or the American Cancer Society.
