Frank Burt Greenough
Age 90, of Detroit Lakes, MN passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, July 27 at Emmanuel Nursing Home after he succumbed to a brief illness.
Frank was born in Barnsville on May 14, 1918 and graduated from Crookston High School. He was a 1940 graduate of Hamlin University in St. Paul and married classmate Betty Hill in 1941 in Madelia, MN. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army, stationed on the Galapagos Islands. He spent a 30 year professional career in the pharmaceutical industry. In 1972 he and Betty relocated from Chicago and purchased the Birch Bark Gift Shop in Detroit Lakes. Frank was a loving patriarch of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, involved in its activities at all levels. He volunteered for several years at the Tamarack Refuge. They enjoyed living on Lake Six in the Vergas area for many years before moving to the Madison in Detroit Lakes last year.
Frank is survived by his wife Betty, daughter Mary Darnall (Tom), son Bruce, grandchildren Kyle Darnall (Kristin), Tara Roth (Randy) Shelby and Riley Greenough, great grandchildren Caleb and Jonah Darnall. His local family includes sister, Catherine Granger, nieces and nephews, Jeff Granger (Suzanne), Robin Friendshuh (Doug), Jim Granger (Carol), and several great-nieces and nephews.
Frank was known for his gentle humor, his wisdom, his fascination with ideas and the time he took to listen to others. Friends and family will recall stories at a visitation at David-Donehower Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday, July 29. The funeral will be at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church on Wednesday, July 30 at 11:00 AM. Memorials preferred to his church.
