Eileen Thorpe

June 26, 1924 — January 2, 2008

Eileen Thorpe, 83, of Detroit Lakes, MN died Wednesday, January 2 at Unity Hospital in Fridley, MN. The Funeral Service will be 1:00 PM Monday, January 7 at Grace Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes with Reverend Eric Lemonholm officiating. Interment will be held this spring in First Lutheran Cemetery, Audubon, MN.



Visitation will be 4-7 PM Sunday, January 6 at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes with a prayer service at 6:00 PM and will continue one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.



Eileen Miller was born June 26, 1924 in Flom, MN to Herman and Nora (Flom) Miller. She graduated from Waubun High School and from the Detroit Lakes Business College with a Secretarial Certificate; she then worked for the Northstar Dairy Co-op in Detroit Lakes. Eileen was united in marriage with Clifton Thorpe April 29, 1949 in Twin Valley, MN. They lived in Detroit Lakes where Eileen was a secretary for Grace Lutheran Church and later worked at the Becker County Veteran's Service Office where she enjoyed helping people. Clifton died February 24, 1974. Eileen continued to live in Detroit Lakes.



Eileen is survived by four daughters, Nadine (George) Kluzak of Lake Crystal, MN, Cynthia Thorpe of Columbia Heights, MN, Annette (Charles) Rhoades of Edgewood, NM, Jennifer (Alan) Trebesch of Blaine, MN; son Brian (Noreen) Thorpe of Renton, WA; six grandchildren, Ivan (Colleen) Kluzak, Nicole Kluzak, Michael Kluzak, Brandon Thorpe, Nicholas Thorpe, Jessica Trebesch; three brothers, Emmett (Adeline) Miller of Twin Valley, MN, Virgil (Betty) Miller of Billings, MT, Charles of Virginia, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton; brother, Noel; two sisters, Erna Zimmerman and Elpha Gunderson.



Eileen was an avid reader. She loved to travel, spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, cooking and making lefse.
