Alice Korinta

August 18, 1919 — September 14, 2009

Alice G. Korinta, 90, of Detroit Lakes, MN died Monday, September 14, 2009 at St. Mary’s Innovis Health in Detroit Lakes. The Funeral Service for Alice will be 11:00 AM Friday, September 18 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waubun, MN with Pastor Chad Peterson officiating. Interment will be in Asplund Lutheran Cemetery, rural Flom, MN. Visitation will be 5 to 7:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 6:30 PM Thursday, September 17 at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes and will continue one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.


Alice G. Weum was born August 18, 1919 in Flom, MN to Emil and Olga (Nelson) Weum. She was raised and educated in the Flom and Twin Valley, MN area and in International Falls, MN. Alice was proud of the fact that she spoke Norwegian in her early years. She had worked in the potato fields and as a nanny. Alice was united in marriage with Raymond R. Korinta July 31, 1942 in the parsonage of Wild Rice Lutheran Church, rural Flom. They farmed in rural Ogema, MN and she also sold Watkins products for many years. Raymond died in May of 2002. Alice continued to live on the farm until entering St. Mary’s Nursing Home in 2005.


Alice enjoyed quilting, crocheting, playing bingo, card games, playing family games and embroidery. She was a member of Spring Creek Homemakers, the Trinity Lutheran Church Ladies Aid and the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 9880. Alice always remembered birthdays and anniversaries.


Alice is survived by her children: Allen (Barbara) Korinta of Ogema, Joyce (Robert) Jelle of Andover, MN, Lois (Dale) Burfeind of Brooklyn Park, MN and Donna (Donovan) Engle of Frazee, MN; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brothers: Eldred Weum of Chehalis, WA and Gordon (Bonnie) Weum of Cottage Grove, MN; sisters: Doris Pawlak of Detroit Lakes and Ruby (Mel) Rassmusen of Babbit, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, Sr.; son, Raymond, Jr.; brother, Archie; sisters: Delaine Peterson and Hazel Blauert; one grandson, Bruce Burfeind.
